Ray Walker has been named chief operating officer at Range Resources Corp., the Fort Worth-based natural gas provider that has significant operations in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania and a big office at Southpointe in Canonsburg, Pa.

Walker will succeed Jeffrey L. Ventura, who will become Range's chief executive officer on Jan. 1 as part of a planned succession that was announced in June.

John H. Pinkerton will rise from chief executive to Range Resources' executive chairman at that time.

Walker joined Range (NYSE: RRC) in 2006, and, in addition to overseeing the company's operations, he will continue to lead Range's environmental, safety, regulatory and best practices programs, the company said.

The company also announced that Alan Farquharson has been promoted to senior vice president of reservoir engineering and economics, and that Ralph Tijerina has been promoted to vice president of safety and environmental.
